Dear Families,
Young Musician of the Year
Mrs Elkin and I had the great pleasure of taking Nora from Year 6 and Lizzie from Year 5 to Manchester for the finals of Young Musician of the Year awards.
There were over 250 children who took part in the original competition and these 2 girls made it to the final 15 acts. It was such an exciting day. There were rehearsals all day and then the actual competition in the evening. I am thrilled to say that Lizzie won the competition for KS2. She was presented with a glass trophy at the end of the evening. We are so proud of both of the girls. They are both so incredibly talented.
Year 3 trip
Year 3 visited the Potteries Museum on Wednesday. They had a great time exploring rocks and then learning about the Spitfire along with learning about Rita Baines who flew planes during WW2.
Co-op Recognition Awards evening
Today, Small & Tall is closed because the staff are going to the awards evening. To be nominated for doing such a great job at looking after the children is such a huge honour. We all know at Friarswood what a great job they do so to be celebrated with other Co-op colleagues is a wonderful opportunity to recognise their dedication.
Celebration of Learning
On Monday 20th July we are having our Celebration of Learning at 2:30pm. The children will be showing you their work which they are really proud of. If the weather is nice, you will be able to sit outside on the field and look through their work or you can stay in the classroom. We hope you can join us. (anyone taking children outside of the classroom to look at work will just need to sign a form to say that you are taking your child outside)
Government Summer Savings - message from the DfE
Rising prices can make life's little treats harder to afford, especially during the school holidays when costs build up for families. This Government is determined to help, and that is why last month the Chancellor announced the Great British Summer Savings scheme.
From 25 June to 1 September 2026, the Government is temporarily cutting VAT from 20% to 5% on children's meals in restaurants, children and family tickets to cinemas, theatres, concerts and exhibitions, and admission to a wide range of attractions. Combined with free bus travel during August for children aged 5 to 15 in England, families and young people will be able to enjoy experiences that make summer special, including visits to the kinds of cultural and educational attractions that enrich children's lives outside the classroom.
