Dear Families,

Welcome to our penultimate newsletter of the year.  It’s been another busy week at school, with Year6 getting ready for their special events next week.  I hope all of the Year 6 parents have their tissues ready!

Careers Fair
On Monday afternoon, Year 5 and 6 took part in a Careers Fair.  This annual event always proves to be so exciting for the children as they have the opportunity to learn about a range of careers from people from all different professions.  Here are a couple of paragraphs from the Year 6 school council.

Sofia-I really enjoyed doing it. I got to find out about lots of different jobs I had never heard about. There were jobs like: a scientist/engineer, Regent theatre/Victoria Hall Creative Learning Officer and Co-op Funeral care. I am so happy and grateful for this experience. Thank you.

Alice – It was such a great experience for us, it really opened my eyes to what career choices were out there. They were all so amazing and super kind. There were jobs from scientists and an occupational therapist. We are all really grateful and we wish we could do it again!

Mother’s Day Picnic
It was lovely to see so many Mums and Mother figures on Wednesday for the postponed Mother’s Day Lunch.  The weather was gorgeous and it seemed that you had lots of fun on the field.  Thank you for coming.  We hope you had a lovely time.

Year 6 SATs results
Yesterday, we had the Year 6 SATs results.  We are so proud of the children.  Their results were amazing.  Well done to all of our Year 6 children for working so well and trying their very best.

Celebration of Learning
On Monday 20th July we are having our Celebration of Learning at 2:30pm. The children will be showing you their work which they are really proud of. If the weather is nice, you will be able to sit outside on the field and look through their work or you can stay in the classroom. We hope you can join us.  (anyone taking children outside of the classroom to look at work will just need to sign a form to say that you are taking your child outside)

Reports
You should have received your child’s end of year report.  It was an absolute pleasure reading them.  I’m so proud of the children and their achievements.  From looking in their books and seeing their achievement data, we really do have the most amazing children at Friarswood.  If you would like to discuss anything further with your teacher, you can do so on Wednesday 22nd July between 3:30pm and 4:30pm.

Government Summer Savings - message from the DfE

Rising prices can make life's little treats harder to afford, especially during the school holidays when costs build up for families. This Government is determined to help, and that is why last month the Chancellor announced the Great British Summer Savings scheme.

From 25 June to 1 September 2026, the Government is temporarily cutting VAT from 20% to 5% on children's meals in restaurants, children and family tickets to cinemas, theatres, concerts and exhibitions, and admission to a wide range of attractions. Combined with free bus travel during August for children aged 5 to 15 in England, families and young people will be able to enjoy experiences that make summer special, including visits to the kinds of cultural and educational attractions that enrich children's lives outside the classroom.
