    Dear Parents / Carers,

What a lovely week we’ve had.  It’s been so lovely visiting different classrooms and seeing how busy the children have been with their learning.

Year 5 had an exciting science investigation to help Jamie Bond who slipped over!  They needed to find the best material for the soles of his shoes.  The children showed amazing independence in setting up their investigations, recording their results and using their prior learning to inform their decisions.  It was so good listening to their discussions in their groups.  Every child was focused and using scientific vocabulary.  Well done Year 5.

Year 1 welcomed Alison, from the Brampton Museum. She brought her toy box full of old toys and by opening the box they met Bunting Bear from the story book ‘The Toy Museum’ by David Lucas. Solving clues to meet different old toys, the oldest was a 120 year old doll with leather legs! Also a wooden pull along Dopey Dwarf, Red Metal Crane, Edward Bear and two wooden bears. The children enjoyed playing with a range of old fashioned toys: spinning tops, Jack-in-a-box, cup and ball, etc. Alison was very impressed with Year 1’s behaviour,  how well they shared and their super language!

A wonderful visit which really brought History to life.

    Dear Parents / Carers,

I would like to say a MASSIVE thank you to everyone who donated so generously to the Ukraine appeal on Monday.  It was amazing to see so many people getting involved.  The children had an assembly on Monday about the Ukraine appeal and about appreciating what they have.

When we took the donated items to the drop off point in Newcastle, we ended up staying there to help pack everything in boxes as transport for the items was at lunchtime.  I’m pleased to say that we did box everything up and your items were safely shipped off.

  • Plant a Tree for the Queen’s Jubilee

    Published 17/03/22

We were very lucky after applying to The Woodland’s Trust to be successful and receive 30 trees to commemorate the Queen’s Jubilee. Our Year 3 class planted them with the help of Newcastle Borough Council’s Green Team. They were brilliant! The children used their strength to dig up the very tough grass, they worked as a team so well. The rain certainly didn’t dampen their spirit and they all had a great time, we hope to see them grow for many years to come. #QueensGreenCanopy #plantabloomingtree #SucceedTogether

  • Ukraine Donation Day

    Published 17/03/22

The children and staff came dressed in yellow and blue today to represent what is happening in the Ukraine at the moment. We asked our family and friends to donate goods from a local appeals list or to donate money using a link provided to the Red Cross Disasters Appeal. The response to this has been amazing! We had 3 fully loaded cars, heaving with supplies desperately needed and we were lucky enough to get them to the local drop off point in time to be packed and shipped off on two trucks the same day! Your kind hearts and generosity has been truly touching. All of the money donations made through the unique link shared will be matched by the Co-op up to £100k. A huge thank you to everyone! #SucceedTogether

  • Fairtrade Fortnight 2022

    Published 11/03/22

Over the last 2 weeks the children have been learning about Fairtrade and how the choices we make can have an impact on many other people from all over the world. Our Fairtrade group helped to share this message to our families at the end of a school day and they led a fantastic whole school assembly. There has also been all kinds of activities in school, some children got to taste a range of Fairtrade products and they even got to grind coffee beans! Some had a go at making Fairtrade super power chocolate balls. Our Nursery and reception classes used Fairtrade chocolate to make their own rice crispie cakes, which looked very delicious! There were maths investigations, independent research, children creating their own powerpoint presentations about Fairtrade, a football tournament using a Fairtrade football, just to name a few. Please take a look at the pictures below to see just some of the things we have done in school for this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight.

We even some classes in their pyjamas with their favourite storybook to share! It was wonderful to see the whole school enjoying books, doing a variety of activities to celebrate how fantastic losing yourself in a book really is and that you really can read anything, anywhere!

Here are a few pictures of how each class chose to mark World Book Day 2022.
