  • Newsletter – September Week 4

    Published 30/09/22

    Dear Parents / Carers,

What a wet and cold week it’s been!

We’ve had the Year 3 classroom painted and the boiler work is still ongoing.  The next area of painting will be the KS2 corridor during half term.

    PTA Meeting

Thursday 6th October 3:30 in the School Hall

Welcome to the new school year and welcome to the hub of our school social and fundraising life – the PTA.

As family members of children at our school you are all automatically members of the PTA. If you would like to be more involved in planning, organising and running exciting events for our children please come along to our meeting next Thursday – we’d love to meet you and hear your ideas.

At the meeting we will be electing new officials to the committee who runs the PTA – a chair, vice-chair, secretary and treasurer. We also need lots of enthusiastic helpers!

Please complete the attached form to let me know if you will be coming to the meeting, if you are interested in any of the officer posts and how many children you’ll have with you (we will be offering a creche)

You will be under no pressure to commit to anything more than you feel able and many hands make light work so please come along and see what it’s all about and hear how you can help make a difference!

    Holidays during term time

Please can I remind you that holidays during term time are unauthorised unless there are exceptional circumstances. This is statutory guidance and not a school decision.

The forms to request a leave of absence are in the main entrance or you can email Mrs Dean to let her know and then she can send a form electronically to you.

You can still be issued a penalty notice if you don’t go through this system.  Please do not ask children to lie as this puts them in a very awkward position.

    Eco Conference

On Tuesday our Eco Warriors were invited to an Eco conference based at Angel Square, Manchester. They had some wonderful ideas and will be working on projects over the coming months. Watch this space!

  • Eco Conference 2022

    Published 30/09/22

We had a fantastic opportunity from The Co-op Academies Trust to attend an Eco conference to help get a better understanding on how to be more eco-friendly and how they can start to improve some areas in our school and our local community. The children who attended have all shown a huge enthusiasm in looking after our planet better and are willing to give up their own time to see their big plans become a reality! There were some really great ideas shared through the other academies and the guest speakers. In the afternoon the children had the chance to plan one or two of their own ideas that will improve our planet but also help the local community. Then the children presented this with amazing confidence. Well done to our Eco Warriors of Friarswood! #SucceedTogether #DoWhatMattersMost

  • Newsletter – September Week 3

    Published 23/09/22

    Dear Parents / Carers,

It’s lovely to be able to send you the newsletters again after a brief pause.

There’s lots of super work going on across the school and the attitude to learning from all of the children is super.  They really are showing off their skills to their new teachers.

    Absences

Please can you email Mrs Dean angela.dean@coopacademies.co.uk if your child is absent.  It is extremely important that this happens as not all teachers see the Dojo messages first thing in the morning.  Mrs Dean has to check every register at 9am every morning and register absences.  If you feel you need to message the teacher after, that is fine but it is not necessary.

    PTA

For all of those parents who would love to join our PTA; we will be sending out a letter next week with a date for the first meeting of the year.

If you feel you have got time to support the PTA and help to raise much needed funds for the children at Friarswood we would love for you to join the team.

  • Newsletter – September

    Published 13/09/22

    Dear Parents / Carers,

Welcome back everyone!  It’s been so lovely to see you all along with our new families too.  I do hope you all had a lovely summer break.

I’m sorry I didn’t send this out on Friday as usual but with the very sad news of the loss of Queen Elizabeth, I felt it was the right thing to do. The children have dealt with this terrible loss in such a calm and respectful way.  I’m so proud of them and how well they have listened to each other.

We will be closed on Monday 19th September for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

Here are some useful reminders that I feel you should know about to help settle everyone into the school year.

A reminder that the times have changed for KS1 and KS2.

School starts at 8:50am but the doors will be open from 8:40am.  Nursery and Reception children start at 8:45am.

Nursery and Reception children finish at 3:15pm (or 11:45 if Nursery children are mornings only).

    KS1 and KS2 finish at 3:20pm.

    Small & Tall

Small & Tall will be closed after school on Wed 14th and Thu 15th of September due to staff training which was postponed from the summer because of Covid.

Please ensure children are collected promptly as all staff will be in taking part in the training.  Thank you.

    Safeguarding

The safeguarding lead at school is Mrs Hartley.  I am the deputy safeguarding lead. We have an up to date Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy which can be found on our website.

Should you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact either of us:

    bev.hartley@coopacademies.co.uk

    lindsey.wilmer@coopacademies.co.uk

If you have any concerns about a child and it is out of school hours, please contact the out of hours support on 0345 604 2886 or in an emergency call the police on 999.

This information can be found on our website.

Year 3 and Year 5 swimming lessons

Year 5 lessons will be on Tuesdays, starting 20th September.  Year 3 lessons will be on Wednesdays, starting 21st September.  We recommend that the children bring a healthy snack to school.

Children who have hot dinners, will be provided with a packed lunch as we won’t be back in time for the end of dinner service.  This may be able to change once we know our arrival time.

    All children will need:

    Towel

Swimming costume (no bikinis or baggy shorts)

Swimming cap if your child has long hair and it falls into their eyes.

No jewellery can be worn for swimming lessons

If your child wants to wear goggles, then please send a message via Dojo to your teacher.  Please note that staff cannot put your child’s goggles on or take them off.

I look forward to a wonderful school year full of exciting activities and working alongside you.

My next newsletter will be after Monday 19th September.

    Kind regards

    Mrs Wilmer
