Newsletter – March Week 1

Dear Parents/ Carers,
Welcome back after half term. I hope you all managed some time with your family and friends.
On Monday, our KS2 children had an assembly linked to CRL (careers related learning). It focused on the labour market index (LMI).
The children identified job prospects in the area and we discussed what skills they need for later on in life. We identified the many areas of school life which help the children to build these skills such as teamwork, resilience, listening and speaking skills, problem solving and aiming high. The children responded so well and were confident at identifying which skills they already possess, which was great. I’m so proud that we have so many children with very high aspirations.
Upcoming National Tests
Year 2 and Year 6 – SATs
These will take place in May. Year 6 tests are set in the week of 8th May. Year 2 will take these in the last couple of weeks in May. The children will have had practice of using the booklets and completing their special work before the actual tests.
Year 4 – Times table tests
These will take place between 5th and 16th June. The tests are online and are ‘quick fire’ X table questions. There are 25 questions. The children have had lots of experience of answering questions as fast as they can so I’m sure they will find this just as exciting as their usual times tables work.
Phonics check – Year 1
These will take place the week beginning 12th June. The children have a range of real and alien words to read. There is no time limit. The children read the words by themselves and with a member of our staff.
Parking on Abbot Way
Please can you take care when parking along Abbots Way. We’re receiving quite a few complaints about people parking on pavements and leaving cars running as families are walking past. I would hate to think of any of you causing an accident or worse. Thank you for your support with this issue.
World Book Day
The whole school took part in a fun and exciting day focused on reading and the wonderful books which we share with our children. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated a book to their class. These will really help to make the class libraries more exciting.
Thank you also to the many of you who came along to the cake and coffee afternoon. It was lovely to see so many children reading with their family members. You can see photos of the fun we had on the website, Twitter and Facebook.
Mother’s Day Lunch
Below is the booking form for Mother’s Day Lunch which is on Thursday 16th March. Please don’t be offended that it’s for Mums only. Grandparents had their special lunches at Christmas and Dads will have their special lunches in June. Thank you for your understanding of this.
Have a lovely weekend.
Take care and stay safe.
