Newsletter – September Week 3

Dear Parents / Carers,
It’s lovely to be able to send you the newsletters again after a brief pause.
There’s lots of super work going on across the school and the attitude to learning from all of the children is super. They really are showing off their skills to their new teachers.
Absences
Please can you email Mrs Dean angela.dean@coopacademies.co.uk if your child is absent. It is extremely important that this happens as not all teachers see the Dojo messages first thing in the morning. Mrs Dean has to check every register at 9am every morning and register absences. If you feel you need to message the teacher after, that is fine but it is not necessary.
PTA
For all of those parents who would love to join our PTA; we will be sending out a letter next week with a date for the first meeting of the year.
If you feel you have got time to support the PTA and help to raise much needed funds for the children at Friarswood we would love for you to join the team.
Jewellery in school
The only jewellery allowed is a small pair of stud earrings and a watch. Bracelets (whether metal or fabric) are not allowed. Children will be asked to remove jewellery which isn’t allowed.
No jewellery is allowed in any PE lesson (including swimming) due to Health and Safety. Children are not allowed to cover up earrings with plasters.
Bump notes
Just a reminder about when we issue bump notes. They are used for serious grazes and bumps and all bumps to heads. Anything very serious, we always contact a parent to speak to them so that they can decide whether to come and collect the child from school or not.
We cannot issue bump notes if we do not know about a bump/accident. If a child doesn’t tell us in school but then mentions it at home, by all means let us know but please don’t be angry with the teacher.
Reading Volunteers in School
We would like to invite any family members to come and support us in listening to readers in school. If you have a spare half hour to come and listen to some children read, please do let us know. Your time will make a huge difference to the children. The reading times will be in the afternoon. After the restrictions of Covid, it will be wonderful to welcome parent volunteers back into school. Please contact Mrs Rafferty if you are able to volunteer or have any further questions. martha.rafferty@coopacademies.co.uk
Year 6 visit & CRL
Next Thursday, Year 6 children are visiting the observatory at Keele. It’s a chance for the children to meet an astronomer, find out what they do and what skills they need for their job.
This is part of our CRL (Careers Related Learning). This is where we discuss skills needed for various jobs in the future. It’s also a chance for us to discuss more unusual jobs with the children which they may not know about.
Every year group from Nursery onwards is learning about skills which will support their future lives such as listening, speaking, teamwork, problem solving, being positive and many more.
We hope that by teaching these skills along with the National Curriculum, our children will be more than ready for their future learning at secondary school and beyond. We hope to build their aspirations and help them to realise that they have the potential to do any job they wish to do.
Small and Tall
We are now taking bookings for October half term. The link is here for more information.
Building update
As you will have all seen, we’ve had lots of various building work going on which unfortunately has rolled over into the Autumn term. Here’s a bit of a run down of what’s been happening and is about to happen.
New boilers – this should have been completed during the holidays but due to asbestos, it has been delayed. Removal of this will be over the weekend and may run into Monday. The children are perfectly safe being in the building if the team is still here. The staff have arranged for alternative routes so nobody is near the boiler room.
Painting – this is an ongoing project. Children will have their lessons in the hall whilst their room is being painted. Again, this was hoped to be completed throughout the holidays.
New flat roofs – this work will be happening through October and possibly November.
The funding for all of this work is through capital bids (from the Government) made by the Trust.
Thank you for your support.
Have a lovely weekend.
Take care and stay safe.
Mrs Wilmer
