Newsletter – June Week 1

Dear Parents / Carers,

Welcome back to our last half term of this academic year.  We have so many activities planned for the children that I know it will be busy.  Please keep a look out for the dates on the website and on social media.

A Day to celebrate our differences!

On Thursday 30th June we will be celebrating RSE (Relationships and sex education) Day at Friarswood. The theme this year is ‘Everyone can Sparkle!’ Children are invited to come to school in anything sparkly. It’s a day when we will be focusing on all of our wonderful, unique qualities, relationships and how different they can all be and most importantly we will be celebrating our differences.

Student Voice

Today, myself and Mrs Bebbington have taken a group of children to the Co-op Headquarters to talk with other primary pupils about student voice.  We spoke about how we use student voice in our school.  We listened to other children talking about what they do at their schools.  All of the school came away with lots of ideas of how we can develop this area.  As soon as we put our plans into action, I’ll let you know.

CRL (Careers Related Learning)

As you will be aware, we have been asking lots of parents / visitors into school to talk about their jobs and the skills needed for their jobs.

During lots of our lessons, we have been discussing, with the children, what jobs use the skills which we are learning.

We have display in the KS2 area showing links between subjects and skills and possible jobs in the future.

We know our children are young but we do hope that by teaching skills such as team work, resilience, listening, speaking clearly and trying our best, our children will develop all the necessities to continue to do well throughout school, high school and colleged and into the world of work.

Emotional Resilience workshops

Year 5 and 6 will take part in emotional resilience workshops, starting next week.  They will help children to deal with problems, develop resilience and strength to tackle any worries or concerns.  This is especially important for Year 6 who will be moving up to high school very soon.

Police Visit

Year 6 will be having a visit from local police officers in the next few weeks.  They will talking about peer pressure, social media issues and high school concerns along with any relevant issues which they feel are necessary for the children ready for their move to high school.

Radio Stoke visit

Our Year 6 children have been chosen to receive a visit from Radio Stoke.  I’m not sure who put out our name forward for this, but thank you.  Some of the Year 6 children are going to test the presenter with SATs style questions to see how well he performs.  As soon as I know more, I’ll let you know.

New menu for next week

Next week kitchen have planned a special menu for Healthy Eating Week. Each day has a special focus and aims to reduce food waste throughout the week.

If your circumstances have changed and you would like to see if you qualify for Free School Meals this link will take you straight to the website.

Have a lovely weekend.

Take care and stay safe.
