Newsletter – March Week 4

Dear Parents / Carers,
What a lovely week we’ve had. It’s been so lovely visiting different classrooms and seeing how busy the children have been with their learning.
Year 5 had an exciting science investigation to help Jamie Bond who slipped over! They needed to find the best material for the soles of his shoes. The children showed amazing independence in setting up their investigations, recording their results and using their prior learning to inform their decisions. It was so good listening to their discussions in their groups. Every child was focused and using scientific vocabulary. Well done Year 5.
Year 1 welcomed Alison, from the Brampton Museum. She brought her toy box full of old toys and by opening the box they met Bunting Bear from the story book ‘The Toy Museum’ by David Lucas. Solving clues to meet different old toys, the oldest was a 120 year old doll with leather legs! Also a wooden pull along Dopey Dwarf, Red Metal Crane, Edward Bear and two wooden bears. The children enjoyed playing with a range of old fashioned toys: spinning tops, Jack-in-a-box, cup and ball, etc. Alison was very impressed with Year 1’s behaviour, how well they shared and their super language!
A wonderful visit which really brought History to life.
CRL (Careers Related Learning)
Thank you to the parents who have sent in emails to offer their time talking to children about their jobs.
Please let myself or Miss Coleman (laura.coleman@coopacademies.co.uk) know if you’d like to come into school to talk about your job and the skills you need. You can choose whichever year group you fancy chatting to.
The children are always so excited when they hear someone is coming to talk to them.
I’ll keep you informed as to the jobs which your children have heard about.
New staff
We have finally appointed a new Early Years Leader who will teach the Reception children and lead all of the foundation stage (Nursery and Reception). Mrs Williams will be starting after Easter but will be coming to meet the children over the next couple of weeks. Mrs Williams has a lot of experience as an Early Years Lead. I’m sure you’ll find her as amazing as we have.
Due to this, we will sadly be saying Goodbye to Miss Razzaq who has been teaching in Reception since September. Miss Razzaq has been invaluable in settling the children into the start of primary education and supporting their learning journey so far. We will all certainly miss her.
Sports4all
Yesterday, Mrs Sharman and myself took some Year 4 and 5 children to Keele University for some sporting activities. The children had a great time participating in ‘blind’ relays, archery, bocca and new age curling.
Their enthusiasm for all of the sports was lovely to see. They worked so well as a team and were full of praise for each other. Well done to all of the children who went.
Reminder about Small & Tall closed after school on Wed 27th and Thu 28th April.
Have a wonderful weekend in the sunshine.
Happy Mothers Day to all of our Mother figures. I hope you have a lovely Sunday.
Take care and stay safe
