Newsletter – March Week Two

Dear Parents / Carers,

It seems to have been a very busy week this week, with visitors in school learning about how we teach reading and phonics, some staff visiting another school to see how they teach maths and various exciting activities going on for the children.

Fairtrade Fortnight

A massive thank you to some of our Year 5 children for leading the assembly on Monday.  They spoke about Fairtrade and why it’s so important.  Thank you to Sophie, Ezra, Evelyn, Reuben,Emma and Sienna.

And a huge congratulations to our winners of the Fairtrade bake off competition.  It was so difficult to judge as they all looked amazing and very tasty.  Next year, myself and Mrs Bebbington are going to have to taste test all of them!  Our winners are Jack and Elise (Yr1 and Yr2), Billy, Hattie and Teddy Simpson (Nur, Yr2) Jack (Yr1) Libby (Rec)  Nicole (Yr5) Sophie (Yr6) Our runners up are Alicia and Stanley (Y3, Nur) Elizabeth and Elliot (Y2, Rec) Jasmine (Yr4) Isabelle (Yr 3) Ezra (Yr5)

Year 3 had a very exciting start of the week as they began their learning about Ancient Egypt.  They were creating fact files, creating their own headdresses (nemes) and learnt about offerings that were put in the Pharaohs’ tombs.  I was even challenged to go through a tomb to find what offerings had been given to the Pharaoh buried in Year 3!

Year 5 have been busy learning to ride their bikes safely on roads. Their enthusiasm and positive attitudes to this activity were very impressive.  Lots of children wanted more of these lessons, which was great to hear.  Well done to all of Year 5 who passed their Level 1 Bikeability certificate.

Year 6 have been busy creating posters to help everyone remember our special day on Monday.  Don’t forget that on Monday, we’re asking for donations towards the Ukrainian crisis and children to come into school wearing blue and/or yellow.  Please see the letter off Mrs Bebbington with the list of needed items.  If there are any parents who can help to take the donated items to the donation point in Newcastle, please contact Mrs Bebbington at stephanie.bebbington@coopacademies.co.uk

Throughout school, we are talking to children at an age appropriate level about the Ukrainian crisis.  We have been sent lots of information and weblinks which support their understanding and possible anxieties.  If you feel that your child is struggling, please let either myself or your teacher know.  We can work together to support them.

A huge thank you to the Year 4 children and families for donating all of their toast money this half term to the Ukraine appeal.  So far, with extra donations too, they have raised a massive £125.  You are all fantastic!

Year 1 have been busy showing off just how well they are doing with their phonics.  The progress they have made is fantastic.  Myself and Mrs Hartley along with the Year 1 staff are thrilled with this.  Well done children and thank you so much to parents for their help with this important part of their learning.

From Monday, Year 3 and 4 parents are invited to drop off and pick up form the Year 4 and changing room doors.  We will of course monitor this and any levels of Covid in the area / school.

Small and Tall

Small and Tall will be open over the Easter holidays except for Good Friday(15th) and Easter Monday(18th). If you would like to book in please email fria.smallandtall@coopacademies.co.uk

Easter Activities

Friday 8th April is the last day of term.  We would like to continue with our traditional Easter activities and we would like to invite parents to school too.

We are asking that KS1 and Early Years children to make an Easter bonnet at home and KS2 to decorate an egg.

At 2pm, we would like to invite parents to the playground (using the playground gate, not the main entrance gates) so that the children can show off their creations to you and the rest of the children in school.

After the event, parents can take their children home from the main pick up points.

And finally – a huge well done to some Year 4 children who have taken part in TTRockstars times tables tests.  These children absolutely flew through the test.  I can’t believe just how fast they can answer the questions.

Eliza, Evie B, Jack, Emma, Enes, Jasmine, Teddy, Mila, Anna Frieda, Gini, Florence, Imogen, Abby, Millie, Wiktoria, Oliver and Flo.

Thank you as ever for your continued support.

Take care and stay safe

Mrs Wilmer
