Newsletter – December Week one

Dear Parents / Carers,
We’ve got quite a busy couple of weeks ahead of us in school and no doubt you will have at home too. Staff and visitors are once again wearing face masks in the corridors and communal areas in the school. Next week we will be performing our KS1 Christmas play and early years singing to our parents. Parents please remember to wear your face masks and carry out a LFT before you come to school.
Team treat
On Monday, our winning team will be having their treat. Every child in the school belongs to a team; England, Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales. Every time a child does anything positive, they receive a team point. At the end of each term, we reward the team with the most awards.
Next week, there will no doubt be lots of photos on Twitter and Facebook along with the website for you to have a look through. I’m not saying what the treat is as it’s a surprise but I’m sure you’ll hear all about it on Monday afternoon.
Wednesday 8th December
Years 1 – 6 will be returning from the theatre at approximately 4:30pm in 4 coaches. If you park along Abbots Way, please can you ensure that there is enough room for the coaches to get to the school. Do not park on the zig zag lines by the school.
Thank you.
Christmas Chocolate Bingo – but not as you know it!
The children have asked if we can hold a chocolate bingo. Due to current circumstances, we have decided to hold the bingo during the day with just the children taking part.
We will be having a non uniform/festive clothing day on Monday the 13th December in exchange for chocolate donations for the bingo.
Key stage 1 and 2 will play Bingo on Tuesday 14th.
Early years will play a picture lotto game to win prizes.
Bingo machine at the ready!
Swimming
Next week is our last week of swimming for the term.
In January, Year 3 will continue swimming on Thursday afternoons, starting 13th January. Year 5 will start swimming on Tuesday lunchtimes, starting 11th January.
Please provide your child with a snack for break time. If your child has school dinners, they will be provided with a lunch bag when they return to school.
Any child with long hair must wear a swimming cap. If you wish for your child to wear goggles, please message Miss Coleman, via Dojo, confirming your decision and that you take responsibility for your child using goggles.
Internet Safety advice
For Parents (6-9 year olds) – SMART Videos
Childnet have produced a series of six short videos based on the SMART rules which parents can use to discuss a range of online safety issues with their children. You can view all of the videos HERE.
For Parents and School (early years) – Goldilocks Book
Goldilocks is quite an old book but this has a twist on the original fairy tale with a social media slant to help educate children about the potential consequences of being unkind, getting carried away with selfies and oversharing images.
You can download a PDF version of the book and an activity sheet HERE. Great to use in the classroom or send the link to parents.
Mental Health Information
In the main entrance of school, we have several leaflets to support mental health and wellbeing concerns from MIND.
Please feel free to take one. If you are unable to get into school, please contact the office and we can pop one in your child’s bag.
We are in the process of setting up a mental health & wellbeing section to our website to help anyone who needs it. As soon as this is finished, I’ll let you know.
Absences
If your child is going to be absent from school please report the absence to the main office number of 01782 470401 before 9.00am. If no-one is in the office please leave a message, all messages are listened to. Alternatively you can email Mrs Dean on angela.dean@coopacaedmies.co.uk.
