Newsletter – June Week 1

Dear Parents / Carers,
Welcome back to our last half term of the school year. There are lots of activities planned for this half term including a KS2 summer show and our Year 6 Leavers’ Assembly.
Year 6 Leavers’ Assembly
This year we will hold the Year 6 assembly on Wednesday 19th July at 9:10am. Bring your tissues as it’s always emotional – and myself and Mrs Sharman are the worst!
End of year reports
All reports will be emailed this year. If you have changed your email address or you know you don’t receive email messages from school, please get in touch with Mrs Dean.
Year 2 SATs
information and phonics information will be sent home at the same time as reports. Year 6 SATs information will be given to the children as soon as we receive it.
Year 1 & 2 phonics tests
Next week, all of the Year 1 children and a few Year 2 children will be taking their phonics tests which are a National test. The children have made such fantastic progress with their phonics that I know they won’t have any problems. The children regularly have one to one sessions with their reading and phonics so they won’t know any difference. Results will be in the end of year reports.
Year 4 times tables tests
This week and next week, Year 4 are taking their times tables tests which again are a National test for all Year 4 children. These children are already amazing at answering questions and I’m always impressed at the speed of their answers. So again, I have no doubt that they will be great.
Last year, we didn’t find out each child’s score, just the total of children who passed. If it is different this year, we will send the information in the end of year reports.
Year 1 trip
On Tuesday, Year 1 had their trip to The Brampton Museum. They learnt about old toys and how they were made along with the materials they were made out of. The excitement when they told me all about their trip was lovely. The noises made about the smell of the cellar have been hilarious! Photos of the trip are on Dojo. Thank you to the staff and parents who helped with walking and transport.
Year 2 – School uniform for next year
As we are starting to prepare for our new academic year, Year 2 parents please remember that the uniform changes slightly for KS2. Pale blue shirts and ties, with v neck jumpers.
The uniform (jumpers, cardigans and ties) can be purchased from Smart Uniform in Newcastle. The shirts are from any supermarkets. Don’t forget we have got our uniform swap shop as well.
High school pupils
Over the next few weeks we will be having high school pupils in as part of their work experience. Many pupils are ex-Friarswood pupils so it will be lovely to welcome them back. The pupils will be helping our children with their activities and helping around the classroom too.
Year 3
Mrs Rafferty will be on maternity leave from the end of June. The last 3 weeks will be covered by Mrs O’Hara. Mrs O’Hara is an experienced teacher and will be in over the next few weeks to speak to Mrs Rafferty and to meet the children.
Information from the NHS
Check that you & your family are up to date with your vaccinations, and if not, contact your GP for a catch up appointment
Measles is a highly infectious disease that can lead to serious problems such as pneumonia, meningitis, and on rare occasions, long-term disability or death. Symptoms include a high fever, sore red watery eyes and a blotchy red-brown rash, and it is particularly easy to catch in environments when in close contact with others.
UKHSA is urging parents of young children, teenagers and adults to check they are up to date with their MMR vaccines, particularly before they travel this summer and before attending summer festivals where measles can spread more easily.
To see if your child is up to date with their MMR vaccines, check your child’s personal child health record (PCHR), known as the red book, or contact your GP practice. If anyone has missed one or both doses of the MMR vaccine, contact your GP practice to book an appointment.
It is never too late to catch up.
