Newsletter – February Week 3

Dear Parents / Carers,

It’s been a very sporty week in school with all of our children taking part in lots of PE and competitions.  It’s been great to see and hear that the children have been putting their skills to the test with the competitions.

The Year 5 swimmers had a great session on Tuesday with many of the children practising their diving techniques.

Thursday 2nd March

Our librarians announced our World Book Day craft competition in assembly last week. We will be having a decorated wooden spoon competition! The wooden spoons should be decorated as a character from a book. They must be bought in to school by the 28th of February ready to be judged so the winners can be announced on World Book Day (the 2nd of March). They must be labelled with the child’s name, the character and  the book they are from.

The children are also invited to come in fancy dress as a book character for the day. We can’t wait to celebrate all things reading!

At 2:15pm, we have a coffee and cake session.  Come along and read with your child whilst having a drink.

If you would like to make cake donations, please bring them in on the Thursday morning.

PTA Disco

This was another huge success.  Thank you to all of the PTA members who gave their time to ensure the children had a fantastic night.  Your hard work, enthusiasm and efforts are greatly appreciated.

A massive £619 was raised.  This money will be used to support extra activities and experiences for our children at Friarswood which the school budget just can’t afford.

Holidays during term time

This is a reminder about completing an Absence Request form if you are taking your child out of school for any reason.  We need to know where your child is if they aren’t in school.

I am unable to authorise any requests which aren’t classed as  ‘exceptional circumstances’.  Holidays during term time are not exceptional circumstances.

Unauthorised absences may result in a penalty notice being issued.  The school does not issue the penalty notice.  We do not know who receives the penalties.  The school does not receive the penalty charges.  The authority does not inform us of their decisions.

Early Years update

We have recruited a part time teacher to support in Reception class when Mrs Williams isn’t in school.  It is Mrs Simpson, who is a very experienced early years teacher.  Some of you may know Mrs Simpson as she is one of our parents.  I’m sure she will love being in Friarswood.

Mr Golds

Due to Mr Golds being off long term and leaving at Easter, Mrs Simm will be teaching Year 2 until the end of the summer term.  The staff will work closely with Mrs Simm to ensure that she is up to date with the children and where they are working at.  Mrs Ratcliffe will remain in Year 2.

As Mr Golds is not in school, Mrs Jones (SENDCo Director for the Trust) has been into school working with the children and the staff and will remain with us until we recruit a new member of staff.

Strike Day

Wednesday 1st March is another Strike day.  School will be open as normal for the children.

I wish you all a very safe and peaceful half term.

Take care and stay safe.

Mrs Wilmer

Absences

Please report any absences on the first day of the absence to Mrs Dean on 01782 470401 (please leave a message if I am not in the office) or email angela.dean@coopacademies.co.uk .
