The Big Launch in Big Green Week - Garden Party Friarswood

On Tuesday 10th June, as part of the Co-op Events, Big Green Week and Big Launch. The community team led by Matt Linley Simon, the Academy Community Pioneer,  hosted a grand opening event. It was a great way to celebrate the work that the Community Team have done  with volunteers to transform the Key Stage 2 Quad Garden Area.

The Co-op Big Launch helps people grow connections and feel a greater sense of belonging where they live – to support and develop community spirit.

Liz Garrity, Head of Community, said: “The support that we have been able to generate to transform the garden with 27 volunteers has been fantastic." It was great to be able to celebrate the new garden area with Alan Smith, the Co-op Operations Manager for Stoke and Staffordshire, Russell Gill, The Co-op Head of Community Delivery, and with Barnardo's Youth Worker, Esther along with many children, parents and carers of Friarswood.

As part of Big Green Week, our Co-op Member Activator, Suzanne Richards, gifted a hamper of Co-op goodies to use for a raffle to raise money for our school PTA.

Friarswood’s Eco club, led by Mrs Bebbington and Mr Linley-Simon, ensured that all students in the Eco Warriors club were able to give their thoughts and opinions about the new garden. The pupil voice activities at the Eco-Club sessions, gave students the chance to choose the name of the garden and also discussed words that express how you would feel in the garden area.
